Bianca’s Story

Europa Design - Interior Designer Bianca Wittgraefe
Growing up in northern Germany, I have always been interested in different styles of design, not just interior design.

My mom, who has been a professional seamstress for over 40 years took me to work with her every day when I was young. I believe that is how it all started for me. I became interested in drawing dresses and evening gowns. With my mom being a seamstress it was easy for her to bring my drawings to life. At that time it was also a more inexpensive way to have a beautiful dress to wear.

I remember as a child I always liked to draw and started putting my ideas for furniture on paper. I also remember sitting at the table with a piece of paper and constantly writing my first and last name looking for ways to make it look better and different.

Although I always had a passion for design I did not begin to follow my passion until I moved from Germany to the US with my husband in 2000. As we moved from a contemporary apartment in Germany to a traditional small duplex with wood panels on the walls and linoleum flooring in the kitchen and bathroom I had to be creative to make it feel contemporary, warm/cozy and welcoming at the same time. This needed to be accomplished with a low budget.

After now thirteen years of living in the US, all our friends who have been in the duplex still talk about how cozy and cute it was. From there we moved to a house in Florida and a then a house in Charlotte where I was responsible for all of the interior design.

My passion for furniture design ideas came back to me through my need of a bedroom set as my young children grew from their cribs into big girl beds. I wanted sturdy furniture but also at the same time furniture without any harsh chemicals to keep my kids safe. That is when I started drawing furniture again. I started with my girls beds and nightstands as well as our bedroom furniture. I kept on going with several other pieces like designing our playroom furniture, office furniture and other accent pieces.

With the help of my dear friend Matt Krampert from Bespoke Cabinetry and Joinery we converted my designs into beautiful pieces.

This personal experience as well as helping friends with paint/color choices and other interior design problems throughout these years has led me to finally take my passion to the next step and let my passion be my work.
